Keep up to date with that we're doing!
Throughout the Spring term the topic of deforestation has been a focal point of our work in Theme and English, and with some habitat links to science. As a result of our cross-curricular learning, we have been able to read about, write about and debate about deforestation on a regular basis. As a class, we have become very informed and have developed our research, reading, writing and verbal skills, which have contributed greatly to our current opinions on the topic.
Some of our views on the matter are:
These views are the result of our wide coverage of the topic, which has led to: some great persuasive writing pieces, detailed posters about natural and man-made disasters, considerations for animals' habitats and some lengthy debates. We would like your opinions about deforestation - see if you can persuade us if it is good or bad! Let us know what you think and we will debate your point.

chis week at school we have delved into the pages of books and immersed ourselves in the written word. In Owls Class, we have embraced reading through different activities, including: comic strips, acting, guided reading and characterisation. The children have thoroughly enjoyed this week's lessons and have taken a different outlook on reading as a result.
Notable learning points included the expression used when reading and the deeper meaning/purpose of a book. When acting out the Jungle book in groups, the children had to think about how they were conveying their character's feelings in order for the rest of the class to understand the expression used in the book. Furthermore, our guided reading session on the book, Dogs Don't Do Ballet, made us think deeper about its meaning. After a spirited debate, we concluded as a class that the book taught us not to doubt people before we have even given them a chance. We learnt that we should (pardon then pun) not judge a book by its cover. World Book Week was topped off with our character dress-up day on Friday, for which the children produced some great costumes and outfits to show off. We lost count of the number of superheroes in assembly! We hope that everyone else in the school enjoyed this week as we have done in Owls! |
