Keep up to date with that we're doing!
We have been working incredibly hard on our multiplying and dividing in Owls Class, so we thought we'd try checking the budgets of a farm to see how important it is for farmers to manage their finances.
As a class we discussed all the different things you would find on a farm that a farmer would need to pay for regularly and we created quite a long list, including: machinery, animals and buildings. After that, these aspects of a farm were then put into a budgeting grid and given prices. Then, we calculated how much it would cost a farmer to pay for each feature every month and every year. The persistence and enjoyment the children displayed calculating the budgets was brilliant. To make things harder, the children were given incorrect budget grids and had to correct any mistakes the farmer had made. Multiplication has now become a fun and challenging element of our weekly classroom routine.
