Keep up to date with that we're doing!
This week in Mini Marines we really pushed ourselves! Bodyweight circuits not only challenged us physically but mentally too! We undertook a range of bodyweight exercises and completed several repetitions of each with varying time limtis in between them. Needless to say, we were tired but feeling successful!

In maths we have been focusing on using concrete resources to learn about place value. Place values counters have certainly been our best friends this week as we have been using them to explore the thousands place value.
Our second Mini Marines session focused on developing the ideas of having SMART targets and working as a team. First, we discussed and wrote down life goals/targets, but we thought about how we would achieve them. Next, we completed several outdoor games which involved working as a team to push ourselves and succeed. All of the class were brilliant in the session!
We had our first Mini Marines session this week and it gave us a great taster of what's to come! We began by discussing what's going to happen this autumn term during Mini Marines and we were able to play some fun games which focused on team work, concentration and problem solving. Below is a selection of pictures from our first session and we look forward to sharing the rest with you. Our Maths this week has focused on developing a growth mindset through the use of problem solving activities. These activities have included: making shapes out of dry spaghetti and marshmallows; creating shapes out of looped string; and noticing and creating patterns using squares and algebra.
It is fair to say that it has challenged us this week, however we have developed growth mindsets as a result. We encourage you to do the same - believe in yourself! The start of our 2019-20 year in Owls has been great! We have had a particular focus on science this week as our theme of 'Magical Moments' gives us a chance to explore a range of magical moments that can happen in science.
We have looked at what can occur when bicarbonate of soda and vinegar mix (it gets very foamy)! In addition, we observed how water can show us the three states of matter (liquid, solid and gas). Please enjoy the pictures below just as much as we enjoyed our experiments! |
