As we started our exploration of the Amazon Rainforest, we enjoyed experiencing the tastes and smells of some tropical fruits and spices, researching answers to our questions and discovering some fascinating facts.
Lilly asked, "How many wild flowers are there in the rainforest?" In just four square miles, you might find 1,500 different flowering plants. Cody asked, "What animals live there we don't know about?" According to a World Wildlife Fund Report, a new species of animal is being discovered every two days. Recent discoveries include the fire-tailed titi monkey, yellow-moustached lizards and pink river dolphins. We are looking forward to creating our own Amazon Rainforest fact files and discovering more. Did you know? The trees of a tropical rainforest are so densely packed that rain falling on the canopy can take as long as ten minutes to reach the ground. |
