Keep up to date with that we're doing!
We have been learning about Earthquakes and we are using this information to write our explanation texts this week.
We have learned that Earthquakes are caused by the tectonic plates rubbing together, sometimes the plates overlap. The ground shakes when the seismic energy builds up. Earthquakes can cause a tsunami to happen. This is a giant wave that sweeps over the land, washing everything away. We have learned what a place looks like after an earthquake has happened. Causal conjunctions have been useful to help us write our explanations. So, therefore, consequently, as a result are all examples of this. Ask an Owl why we have been calling them "earth-ducks"!

If you can translate some of the song (that we have learnt in our French lesson) in the comments section, you will get a house-point! For the past 2 weeks Owl class have been learning about weaving with Mrs Humphries, making fabric tapestry wall hangings.
The first week, after the holiday, started off with us learning when weaving was created, we made a mind map to show the history of weaving. Then, we designed our planned our own weaving design which we drew and coloured in, some people added labels. During the second week we started weaving. Mrs Humphries gave us some cardboard looms, then we had to tie the wool to the top of our looms and wrap it around. We chose our fabric, following our design and then we cut it into strips, we were shown a very specific way to cut the fabric. We used this fabric to go over and under the wool on our looms. We started our weaving on different sides of the loom each time. If we didn’t like our design, or the right colour fabric wasn’t there, we were able to change our designs. Owls will be doing this every Wednesday afternoon for the next 3 weeks. This Blog was written by all of Owl class! |
